Here are some legislative updates affecting MFTs in Tennessee. Below are links to learn more about each law relevant to the profession.
New laws were passed in 2024 that affect MFTs and other healthcare providers. If you were not able to attend the October or November trainings TNAMFT offered, you can download the text of the new laws at the links below and consult AAMFT, a healthcare attorney, or your liability insurance to address any specific questions about your clients or workplace in regards to applying these laws.
- PC0783 Duty to Warn adds threats against groups of people and new action steps providers must take to meet this responsibility
- PC0761 Cassie Wright Act adds requirements about warning parents even if client is a mature minor
- PC0831 Release of records changes to requirements as to how much must be released and how quickly it must be delivered after requested
- PC1061 Family Rights and Responsibilities Act parental consent and rights discussed in detail regarding various health and mental health activities
